Media Tools

This is truly one of my most favourite creative activities using tools on my desktop computer. The power of multimedia is undeniable. Creating short clips that contain audio, visuals, motion, music, animations in general can make the difference in your students' attention and interest.

Nowadays most students have access to a camera, and phones all have picture features. So the key elements of the media creation process are almost all in place. What one needs the most is ideas on what to do with these media tools.

I list below a few sample ideas on this page. These would require the download of some media recording tools for your computer. I use IShowU on my Mac, but here are other tools that can work as well on PCs and can be downloaded for free.

The whole idea is to prepare your screen with the documents and web pages you wish to talk about, record your voice as your present or navigate through the pages at hand, do a couple of saving and formatting clicks and upload your file to a blog or even post them on a podcast space, where you students can get them brand new, download them for their ipods and practice on their way to school.

It is that simple.

Sample One
A brief example on how to create a vocabulary page using images from the internet.

Sample Two
An explanation on how to navigate my Italian blog about Speed Dating

The link will take you to the wiki page with the video clip as well as the direct link to the Blog the video explains.
