Let's Swim Together in the Techno-Waters
of the Online World!
Saturday, October 30, 2010
This session is a half-day workshop, usually better offered as a hands-on session, through which participants will discover, try out and be inspired by a variety of free technology tools available on line, that can directly benefit the second language classes. Participants will use tools such as:

  •  Vokis - an avatar making site
  •  Xtranormal - a simple animation site
  •  Audio-pal - and audio recording file site
  •  Google-maps - working with maps
  •  Blogger - creating web-spaces for your lessons
  •  Wiki-spaces - creating web spaces for your lessons
  •  Story-bird - a site to create beautiful stories
  •  Word clouds - create word images to help students remember or prepare for new texts
  •  Flisti - a poll-making site
  • Media Tools - to create simple and brief audio files of your work and your presentations recording your line of thoughts from the screen of your computer, and others, to create simple but effective audio-visual resources, use them in interactive ways to enhance their classes. The session includes access to wiki-pages with a wealth of links and additional examples of resources (all available free) that I have created over the years.

The Handout for this session (presented at SLIC 2010 - Edmonton, October 30, 2010)

Goal for the session (what would participants gain from this session)
·       Learn how to access and use the tools
·       Practice with simple ideas to create objects using the tools that they can post on a blog or a wiki page
·       Discover the direct connections between the ideas of the session and the POS in their specific language
·       Discover how they can use the tools not only to create new resources but also to inspire their students to share evidence of language production both in written, audio and multimedia format
